Kathmandu, Nepal, January 18, 2022: A meeting of the political coordination committee is scheduled held at Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s official resident, Baluwatar today (Tuesday) morning. The coordination committee is the 11 member committee formed with the aim to facilitate the government by coordinating the ruling allies- Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) CPN (United Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha.
NC’s senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel Poudel heads the committee. All the senior leaders of the ruling allies are incorporated in the committee. The committee had failed to hold meeting since long due to the spreading threat of COVID-19.
It is said that the meeting has been organized in the midst of the spreading threat of COVID-19 to discuss on ranges of contemporary political issues including the upcoming National Assembly and local level elections. Likewise, the issues related to the cabinet expansion and stalemate in the parliament will also be discussed in the meeting.
The meeting of the political coordination committee has been called just a day after Prime Minister Deuba and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held a discussion on contemporary political issues on Monday. It is said that the duo had agreed to discuss the issues in the political coordination committee meeting.
The ruling allies have already agreed to forge alliance in the scheduled National Assembly elections that is scheduled for January 26 to elect 20 members to the National Assembly to replace those retiring from the Upper House following the end of their four-year terms. However, no formal decision is made yet to forge alliance in the upcoming elections including the upcoming local level election.
The government has failed to announce the date for the local level election even though the Election Commission had repeatedly been recommending the government to announce the local elections. It is said that indecision over the issue of possible alliance among the ruling parties in the local level election has been causing delay to announce the date for the local level election.
