Kathmandu, Nepal, September 6, 2022: The sixth edition of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) women’s championship is going to kick off at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu from Tuesday.
The regional tournament is going to start with inaugural match between host Nepal and Bhutan. Different seven south Asian counties- Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, and Bhutan are competing in the tournament.
The match is being played by dividing the seven countries into two groups. Group A consists of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Maldives while Group B constitutes Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
The top two teams from the two groups will advance to the semi-finals. Nepali team, led by 26-year-old goalkeeper Angela Tumbapo Subba is going to play against Sri Lanka in the second match of the group stage on September 12.
Head coach of the Nepali national women’s football team Kumar Thapa has expressed his optimism that Nepal has set a goal to win the SAFF title for the first time. So far, Nepal has been limited to runner-up four times. Once it was limited to the semi-finals.
