Kathmandu, Nepal, August 29, 2022: The Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, has directed the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) to furnish written clarification within seven days on a contempt of court case filed against him.
Responding to a writ petition filed by Advocate Deepakraj Joshi, a single bench of Justice Hari Krishna Karki issued the order on Monday to furnish written response by Mayor Shah himself or on his behalf by his representatives as per the law within seven days.
Advocate Joshi had filed contempt of the court over the statements made by Mayor Shah on a writ petition lodged against the move of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to demolish the constructions of the Norvic Hospital allegedly built by encroaching upon the public land.
Hinting at the SC's interim order not to demolish the structure of Norvic Hospital, mayor Shah had written on social media stating as “Now, the Supreme Court should be given the job of approving structure designs.”
