Kathmandu, Nepal, September 23, 2022: First hearing of the writ petition filed at the Supreme Court against of the President Bidhya Devi Bhandari's decision not to authenticate the Citizenship Bill is being heard today.

Different five writ petitions were filed against the president stating that the president failed to obligate the constitutional provision by not authenticating the Bill. President Bhandari refused to authenticate the Bill though it was forwarded to her for the second time after authentication from the federal Parliament.

Article 111 (3) of the constitution of Nepal has given authority to the president to suspend veto to send the bill to the House of origin with her objection. But Article 113 (4) of the same constitution has made the mandatory provision to authenticate if any bill was sent for a second time after being passed from both the Houses of Parliament with or without any changes.
