Guwahati, July 4 : Security forces had destroyed three camps of the Naga outfit group NSCN (IM) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changland district on Tuesday evening.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, based on specific intelligence about presence of NSCN (IM) militants trying to terrorize and attempting extortion in and around Motongsa village near Miao in Changlang district, the Jairampur battalion of Assam Rifles in coordination with army had launched a massive operation at the area.

When the troops reached at the remote area, the militant group had started firing upon the security personnel and bullets were exchanged from both sides and the militants fled from the area.

“During search of the thickly vegetated area the troops located and destroyed three NSCN (IM) camps and a logistic base. The camps were being used by the outfit as base of operations and had allowed the group to increase their influence in the area. Destruction of the camp has help alleviate the problem of extortion and harassment by the militants not only in Motongsa but also in Nampong and Miao circles of Changlang district. Destruction of the camps come as a follow up to a similar operation conducted in Miao circle in March this year resulting in destruction of a NSCN (IM) hideout and the operations have resulted in the undergrounds going on the run and rendered them defunct,” the Defence PRO said.

A massive search operation is in progress to locate and neutralize the fleeing militants.

Besides NSCN (IM), banned outfit NSCN (K), ULFA (I) are active in Changlang district and some other parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland along with Myanmar border.
