Kathmandu, Nepal; the Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country has on Friday summoned the government to furnish the reasons that why the erstwhile CPN Maoist Center leader Bal Krishna Dhungel should be given amnesty.

With the verdict, the government has to appear before the SC on Sunday to furnish the reasons that why the government has initiated process to give presidential pardon to the murder convict Dhungel.

The SC has made the verdict responding to the writ petition filed by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi. Tripathi had filed a writ petition at the SC on Thursday seeking stay order on the government’s decision to grant amnesty to murder convict Dhungel.

Though the government has not made public officially regarding the presidential pardon to the murder convict Dhungel, it is said that the jail administration has already initiated process to release Dhungel from the jail on the occasion of Republic Day, which falls on May 29.

The Supreme Court (SC) had quashed the same recommendation made by then Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai for presidential pardon for Dhungel in November 2011.
