Kathmandu, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC), the Apex Court of the country, has upheld the government’s decision to grant amnesty to the murder-convict erstwhile Maoist leader Bal Krishna Dhungel.
The SC has issued a verdict on Tuesday denying to issuing any interim order in a writ petition filed against of the government proposal to grant amnesty to murder-convict Maoist leader Dhungel.
Responding to the writ petition filed by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi seeking the apex court intervention against the government's preparations to pardon Dhungel, a division bench of Justices Meera Khadka and Tanka Bahadur Moktan has denied issuing the interim order.
Responding the SC’s order, the Police had arrested and jailed Dhungel about six months ago to serve out the remaining 12 years of the 20-year term. The SC had made the verdict upholding the decision of the lower courts over the killing of Ujjan Kumar Shrestha of Okhaldhunga in 1998.
