Kathmandu, Nepal, August 30, 2022: The 'Teej' festival, which is also known as the 'Haritalika', is being observed by Hindu women today throughout the world including in Nepal.  

In the festival that falls on the third dark day of the lunar month Bhadra, women used to fast throughout the day wishing for a prosperity and longevity of their spouse. 

To fast on the occasion of Teej today, women rejoiced with various delicious dishes known as 'Dar' on Monday. 

Woman used to take holey bath on Monday before visiting temples to worship lord Shiva and organize various singing and dancing program throughout the day. 

Both married and unmarried women worship lord Shiva praying for fulfillment of their wish for a happy and prosperous conjugal life of their spouse.

As per the legend, Goddess Parbati, the daughter of Himalayas, was on her maiden fast, wishing for the wellbeing of her spouse, Lord Shiva.  Since then the same day has been recognized as the Teej.

Meanwhile, the Pashupati Area Development Trust is going to reopen the east entrance of Pashupatinath this year for the convenience of the devotees visiting the Pashupatinath Temple on the occasion of Teej festival. The east entrance is going to be reopened for the first time after 2065 BS.
