Kathmandu, Nepal, August 25, 2020: The bid to bury the internal rift of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) by dividing to the posts and positions of the party and the government among the respective camps of the senior leaders would not come into implementation soon, thanks to the uncertainty to convene the meeting of the secretariat.
It was said that secretariat meeting would be called for Monday to endorse the report submitted by the taskforce formed under the leadership of its General Secretary Bishnu Poudel. However, it could not happen due to the misunderstanding among the chairman duo Pushpa Kamal Dahal and KP Oli over some appointments made by the government.
As one of the major dissatisfaction of Dahal was ‘unilateral’ appointments of Oli Dahal had demanded to cancel recent controversial appointments before the secretariat meeting. It is said that internal race within the respective camps over the issue of appointment as ministers has also played role not to convene the secretariat meeting at anytime soon.
Party insiders have a claim that secretariat meeting likely to be called on Saturday to discuss over the report. It is said that a meeting scheduled for Tuesday between the chairpersons duo Pushpa Kamal Dahal and KP Oli would fix the date for the secretariat meeting.
The task force, which was mandated to submit the report to resolve the internal rivalry of the party, has already submitted the report to the chairman duo on last Saturday. The taskforce has recommended dividing the post and positions of the party and the government among the senior leaders.
As per the suggestion report, Oli should be allowed to lead the government for a full term whereas Dahal should be given additional rights to drive the party.
The ruling NCP had reached at the verge to vertical division after dissident faction led by executive chairman Dahal, who is backed by senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal, demanding Oli’s resignation both as party chair and prime minister.
After months long wrangling, chairperson duo Dahal and Oli had reached a tactical understanding on the name of managing the ongoing conflict. It is said that party’s senior leader duo Nepal and Khanal seem skeptical over the deal made by the chairman duo.
As many as 31 out of the 44 Standing Committee members had demanded Oli resignation from both as party chair and prime minister, he had threatened to split the party if he was compelled to resign from any posts. Since Oli has the majority strength in both at secretariat and parliamentary Party, he has been insisting to settle the internal rift of the party through the secretariat meeting.
