Kathmandu, Nepal, December 6, 2022: Though the vote counting of the November 20 elections is almost over, it is unlikely to form a new government within three weeks. As the EC would take at least two weeks to complete the electoral process, the country would get new government within a month period of the elections date.

The Election Commission (EC) has said that counting of votes under the Proportional Representation (PR) system of the recently held elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly (PA) would be completed on Tuesday.

Though the vote counting cast under the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) category concluded on Monday, some votes cast under PR system in Syangja constituency-2, Dolakha and Bajura are yet to be counted, EC’s assistant spokesperson Kamal Bhattarai.

With the end of vote counting, the EC has to write to the political parties to recommend the names of the PR candidates along with number of seats based on the closed list of PR candidates submitted earlier. It is said that the EC would finalize the seat allocation to write the parties by Thursday.

The parties would get at least seven days to recommend the name of PR candidates for HoR and three days for PA. The EC will submit the final results to the President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, once the parties send the names. The President would take at least two days to call the parties to form a new government.
