Kathmandu, Nepal, March 10, 2020: Responding to the concerns of the neighboring China, the Nepal government has ordered the concerned agencies including the security force to be deployed in-and-around Tibetan refugee settlements in different parts of the country including in capital city, Kathmandu to inspect and keep a watch on their activities.
As Tibetan refugees in Nepal used to celebrate the March 10 as anniversary of a 1959 Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule, Nepal government has decided not to allow the Tibetan refugees to organize any events on the name of celebrating the anniversary on Tuesday.
As Tibetans in Lhasa had organized protest against of the Beijing’s tightening political and military control of the formerly independent Tibet On March 10, 1959, it was believed that thousands of protesters were killed in the rebellion. Following the date, Tibetans used to celebrate the March 10 as anniversary of a 1959 Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule.
Withstanding to the possible crackdown by Nepal police, the Tibetan Welfare Office (TWO) in Nepal has already urged Tibetans not to observe the March 10 as anniversary. As Nepal government tends not to allow Tibetans to observe the March 10 anniversary, we urged to abide by the laws of the land, the TWO had said on Friday through an announcement.
However, the TWO has encouraged performing virtuous deeds by performing prayers and religious ceremonies on the anniversary date.
Though, China usually used to exert pressure in Nepal not to allow the Tibetan refugees to organize any events either on the name of observing anniversary or celebrating birthday of their exiled spiritual leader Dalai Lama, it is said that there would not be any disturbance to performing virtuous deeds and prayers.
