Review Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal, April 14, 2020: As hundreds of thousand poor people have deprived of basic facilities like food from the ongoing lockdown triggered by the spreading threat of global pandemic (COVID-19), transparency questions have been raised from different sectors over the spending modalities of the government funds including the COVID-19 Control and Treatment Fund.
As the government has failed to address the grievances of the poor and the daily wages workers, who have been complaining for failing to receive food and other daily essentials even in the dearth situation of lockdown, not only the general public but also the potential donors have also raised questions over the motive and intention of the government for failing to spend even the collected amount in the fund.
The fund set up by the government has become able to collect about two billion till the date on Monday. However, the government has not made public about the expenditure modalities except urging the donors to deposit in the fund.
Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada had on Friday formally requested the representatives of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) to contribute to the government fund. However, a chunk of business community has not contributed the fund even raising transparency.
