Kathmandu, Nepal, October 11, 2022: United Kingdom’s Minister of state for the Middle East, South Asia and the United Nations at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Lord Ahmad, has urged the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to vote against the Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine.
According to a source close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Amhad held a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Deuba to discuss over the Russian invasion in Ukraine, particularly its annexation of four regions of Ukraine.
The United Nations General Assembly is going to hold voting soon against of the Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine. The European Union, UK and the USA have constantly been wooing Nepal to stand against Russian invasion in Ukraine.
The Russia has been launching missile strikes on Monday targeting to the different cities of Ukraine including its capital city Kyiv. According to the media reports, the Russian strikes of Monday alone have killed at least 11 Ukrainians and injured several others.
It is said that Nepal would vote against of the Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine. Last Tuesday, the Russian parliament had unanimously ratified a legislation to annex the Ukrenian regions- Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
It is said that the MoFA has already communicated to the ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations to vote against of the Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine.
Earlier in March, Nepal had voted in favor of a UN resolution on the Ukraine crisis at a rare United Nations General Assembly meeting. Nepal was among the 141 members who voted against Russian invasion of Ukraine.
