Kathmandu, Nepal, September 6, 2022: Following the footsteps of the ruling allies, the main opposition CPN-UML and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) are also intensifying discussions to forge electoral alliance in the upcoming November 20 elections.
Even though both the parties have been hesitating to reveal about the possible electoral alliance, it is claimed that they have reached near to the consensus for the agreement. It is claimed that the UML has offered 14 seats while the RPP has been demanding at least 20 seats.
As the RPP has a challenge to get a national party status, for which a party needs to win one seat under the first-past-the-post system and 3 percent of the total valid votes under the proportional representation system, it has opted loyalty for the compromise on seat sharing deal with the UML, claims a source close to the party preferring anonymity.
CPN UML chairman Oli and RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden are going to vie the elections from Jhapa-5 and 3 respectively. Both the chairmen are in the plan to win the elections by securing each others’ votes as both the leaders are well aware that winning of elections would not possible if electoral alliance was not forged among themselves.
The UML has also been approaching the Madhesh-based Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP)for the electoral alliance in the upcoming elections. As the ruling allies neither proposed for the electoral alliance nor offered to include in the government, the LSP has been mulling the idea to forge electoral alliance with the UML. It is said that the LSP would forge electoral alliance with the UML if the citizenship act was authenticated by the president.
