Kathmandu, Nepal, March 9, 2022: voting for the presidential election has begun at the parliamentary building at New Baneshowr, Kathmandu from 10 am on Thursday. 

Voting is going on at separate polling stations set for the federal parliamentarians and provincial assembly members in the Lhotse chamber of the parliament building. According to the Election Commission (EC), the election will continue till 3 pm. 

Presidential candidate Ram Chandra Poudel casted his first vote for the federal parliament lawmaker, while Prakash Shrestha, a member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, casted his first vote for the provincial assembly. Another presidential candidate of CPN UML, Subas Chandra Nembang also casted votes. 

The Nepali Congress’s presidential candidate Poudel is backed by different nine political parties including the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal, Janmaat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Rahtriya Janamorcha and Nepal Samajwadi Party along with Nepali Congress. On the other hand, UML candidate Nemwang is backed only by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).  

A total of 882 voters will cast votes in the presidential election, including 332 federal parliament members and 550 provincial assembly members. The vote weight of the federal member of the parliament is 79 while the vote weight of the provincial assembly member is 48.
