Kathmandu, Nepal, March 1, 2022: China has said that it has noted the parliamentary endorsement of the US-Funded grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact project with Interpretive Declarations.

We have noted the decision and the declaration by the Nepalese parliament, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Monday while responding to a media query on China's reaction to the rectification of the MCC agreement adding that any such agreement should not interfere in other country's internal affairs.

China’s reaction has come just a day after the parliament rectified the USD 500 million MCC grant from the parliament to develop the roads and power transmission lines. Northern neighbor China had been expressing concerns over the MCC after some political parties labeled it as against of the China.

We have repeatedly been stressing that international formal cooperation should follow the principle of mutual respect, equal treatment and fully respect the sovereignty of the country concerned and the will of its people, Wang said.

It should not interfere in other country’s internal affairs to engage in coercive diplomacy, undermine other sovereignty and interest out of selfish interests; he said adding China always supported Nepal choosing an independent path of development.
