Kathmandu, Nepal, January 22, 2023: 2159th Sonam Lhosar, one of the greatest festivals of Tamang community is being celebrated with much more fanfare today.
People from the Tamang community used to mark the festival as New Year. According to the Manju Shree calendar, Tamang community divides year into 12 cycles; each is given a special name, based on the name of the animals. This year’s New Year is known as Cat Year, started with the end of the Tiger Year.
A special program was organized at Tundikhel of Kathmandu to mark the festival. Varioues dignitaries including the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal presented at the program. People from Tamang community also performed various cultural programs.
