Kathmandu, Nepal: Global aerospace leader Airbus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tribhuvan University to bolster Nepal’s aerospace sector through academic collaboration, research, and skills development initiatives.

The agreement was signed in Kathmandu by Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus South Asia, and Prof. Dr. Sushil Bahadur Bajracharya, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel and French Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Virginie Corteval, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation and Airbus representatives.

The partnership aims to enhance Nepal’s human capital in aerospace by focusing on academic development, training, research collaboration, and industry exposure. Under the agreement, both parties will jointly work to strengthen curricula in aerospace engineering and related digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, and cybersecurity.

Speaking at the event, Westermeier highlighted the importance of talent development in building a robust aerospace ecosystem. He stated that Airbus would bring its global expertise to support training and skill development in Nepal, reaffirming the company’s commitment to the country’s aviation sector through a collaborative approach.

Vice-Chancellor Bajracharya noted that the agreement comes at a crucial time when Nepal’s aviation sector is undergoing significant transformation. He expressed confidence that collaboration with Airbus would help modernize academic programmes and contribute to the long-term development of the country’s aviation capabilities.

As part of the MoU, Airbus and Tribhuvan University will also explore opportunities for internships, student placements, and partnerships with international institutions. The collaboration will further include joint events such as symposiums, technical festivals, conferences, and workshops aimed at fostering innovation and research in aerospace and aviation.

Officials believe the partnership marks a significant step toward building a skilled workforce and strengthening Nepal’s position in the global aerospace landscape.
