Kathmandu, Nepal: The Election Commission (EC) has said that around 73 per cent voters have cast their votes in the third phase of local level elections held in eight districts of Province 2 on Monday.
Organizing a press meet on Monday evening, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav also informed that the elections completed in a peaceful manner except minor incidents.
The election commission is fully satisfy with the third phases of local level elections, Chief Election Commissioner Yadav said.
With the elections, 6,627 local representatives will be elected for the 136 local levels including one metropolitan city, three sub-metropolitan cities, 73 municipalities and 59 rural municipalities.
A total of 37,236 contestants were vying for the different posts of the local unites. According to the EC, a total of 2,664,950 voters have registered in Province 2.
The polls was canceled in Rajbiraj-15 in Saptari district after a candidate for ward chairman from the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Mahanthi Yadav, died of blood cancer on September 16. The next polls have been scheduled for September 21.
According to the EC, 38 bogus voters and 10 other persons were held for violating the laws from various districts during the polls.
The polls held in province number 2 was taken interestingly as the Rastriya Janta Party Nepal (RJPN), which had boycotted the first and second phases of local polls, had participated in the elections.
The RJPN had boycotted the previous elections alleging the government for failing to address their demands.
