Kathmandu, Nepal, January 18, 2022: National Association of Rural Municipalities in Nepal, Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) and Association of District Coordination Committees of Nepal (ADCCN) have jointly urged the government and the Election Commission (EC) to initiate the process for local level elections at the earliest.
Issuing a statement Monday, the representative associations of the local bodies have also reminded that serious constitutional crisis would emerge in the country if the election was not held on time. There will have a negative impact on democracy and the federal governing system if the local level elections are not held on time, reads the statement.
As the constitution of Nepal has not envisioned the local levels without elected representatives, there is no alternative of holding local level election on time, the representative associations of the local agencies have stated even recalling the loss to the country in the past when local elections were not held for long.
