Kathmandu, Nepal, November 1, 2021: Chief Ministers of Province 1 Bhim Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi resigned from their posts on Monday.

Acharya resigned after his party CPN UML fell into minority while Shahi of the CPN Maoist Centre resigned from the post as part of a power-sharing deal made with the ruling alliance.

With the resignation, Rajendra Rai of CPN (Unified Socialist) would be appointed as the Chief Minister of Province 1 while Jiban Bahadur Shahi of Nepali Congress will be appointed as the new chief minister of the Karnali Province.

CPN (United Socialist) leader Rai has claimed the post in the support of 49 out of 92 members of the provincial assembly. It is likely that he would be appointed as Chief Minister by Tuesday.

Acharya was appointed as the chief minister of Province 1 on August 26 after the resignation of Sherdhan Rai. He remained in the post just 46 days. Earlier on Wednesday, Chief Minister of Bagmai Province, Astha Laxmi Shakya had resigned from the post.
