Kathmandu, Nepal: Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested the Director General of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), on the charge of corruption on Thursday.
DG Sharma, who is Joint Secretary, was arrested for his alleged involvement of corruptions while fixing taxes. It is said that the CIAA arrested Sharma responding to the numerous complaints registered against him on charge of misusing millions of properties abusing his authority. CIAA officials have confirmed his arrest.
It is alleged that Sharma had misused his authority for his personal benefit. Sharma had also served as the DG of Department of Money Laundering Investigation and member-secretary of Tax Settlement Commission earlier.
