Kathmandu, Nepal, August 22, 2020: Nepal’s coronavirus infection tally has reached to 31,117 after 634 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said during a regular media briefing on Saturday that 634 new cases were detected while carrying out 12,519 PCR tests in the past 24 hours in various laboratories across the country.

Among the newly reported coronavirus infection cases, 216 cases were detected inside the Kathmandu Valley alone. This is the highest single day spike of coronavirus in Kathmandu valley. 

Among the newly reported cases in Kathmandu valley, 160 were from Kathmandu, 50 from Bhaktapur and 6 from Lalitpur district. This all indicates that Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, particularly the Kathmandu district, has constantly seen a sharp increase of coronavirus infection in recent days. 

Likewise, spokesperson Gautam also said during the press briefing that 136 persons, who earlier had tested positive for coronavirus, have been discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours. 

Similarly, death toll due to the infection of coronavirus has reached to 146 after nine persons succumbed to virus in the past 24 hours, spokesperson Gautam said during the press conference.
