Kathmandu, Nepal, March 9, 2021: Upholding the verdict of the Supreme Court (SC), the Election Commission (EC) has on Tuesday scrapped the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) registered in the name of KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal and revived the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist and Leninist) and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) registered on the name of Oli and Dahal respectively.

As the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist and Leninist) was registered in the name of Sandhya Tiwari and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) in the name of Gopal Kirati, after Oli and Dahal merged the party to NCP, EC has asked both the chairmen- Tiwari and Kirati- to propose new names and election symbols within 15 days.

The EC has made the decision after the SC had on Sunday passed the verdict to give the name of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to Rishi Kattel as he had already registered the party with the same name before registration of NCP led by Oli and Dahal.
