Kathmandu, Nepal, March 13, 2020: Former Central Committee Member of the All Nepal Free Students' Union (ANFSU), the student wing of the ruling head Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Indra Hang Rai has been slapped for eight-year jail term and fine for raping a teenage girl in Kathmandu.
Kathmandu District Court has slapped the jail term against former ANFSU leader Rai for his involvement in raping a college girl in Kathmandu some five months ago.
A single bench of District Judge Binod Kumar Pokharel issued the verdict for the eight year jail term along with fine of Rs 150,000.
Police had arrested Rai after a college girl had filed a rape case against him at Metropolitan Police Circle, Bouddha on October 28, 2019. Police had arrested Rai on October 29, 2019.
It was alleged in the complaint that Rai had invited her to his Makalbari-based relative’s residence on pretext of playing Deusi Bhailo and then raped her for three hours in the broad daylight.
