Kathmandu, January 25, 2020:  The government is preparing to extend the current academic session by two months. According to an official at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), legal consultations are underway to this effect. 

As the current academic session largely affected due to the COVID-19, preparations are underway to extend the current academic session by the month of Jeth (June), an official at the MoEST said preferring anonymity.  

The academic session in school level usually starts from Baishak, (May) and ends in the month of Chait , (April) every year. 

Though the existing education regulation has made a provision that schools should be opened for 220 days in a year where teaching learning activities should be carried out for 192 days, this could not happen due to the COVID-19 this year.
