Kathmandu, Nepal, March 17, 2024: Holi, the festival of colors, officially begins with the traditional installation of the ceremonial wooden pole known as ‘Chir’ at the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Swuare Palace premises on Sunday.
The Phagu Festival officially begins in Kathmandu Valley after the installation of the ‘Chir’ at Basantapur on the eighth day of the bright half of the month of Falgun. As per the tradition, the Chir was erected at the auspicious hour of 7:47 AM on Sunday morning.
The Phagu Festival falls on March 24 in hilly and mountain area and 25 in Terai area. Government used to announce public holiday on the respective areas to mark the festival.
