Kathmandu, Nepal: Japan has sent emergency relief supplies to Nepal for people affected by the flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-China border on August 26.
Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru handed over the supplies to Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun at the Humanitarian Staging Area of Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday.
The supplies include blankets, plastic sheets, sleeping pads, tents and portable jerry cans. They are intended for communities that were affected by the floods and landslides.
The assistance was provided after telephone conversations between Nepalese and Japanese officials. Japanese Prime Minister and Foreign Minister discussed the disaster with their Nepalese counterparts during separate telephone calls on September 1 and August 31.
During the calls, the Japanese side expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the floods and landslides and discussed Japan’s support for Nepal’s response to the disaster.
The Japanese government said the relief materials would be used to help people facing shortages of basic items following the disaster.
Japan also said it would continue to support recovery and reconstruction work in the affected areas.
