Kathmandu, Nepal, May 20, 2021: Dr. Khim Lal Devkota has been elected as a member of the National Assembly, the upper house of the federal parliament. 


In the elections held on Thursday, Devkota Secord 5088 votes while his nearest rival Ram Bahadur Thapa secured just 4014 votes. Another contender Krishna Bahadur Tamang, who is a leader of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party secured just 132 votes.


Thapa was the candidate of the KP Oli led faction of the ruling CPN UML. Likewise, Devkota, who is close to dissident faction of the ruling CPN UML led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, was backed by the main opposition Nepal Congress and the CPN Maoist. 


Other fringe parties including Rastrya Prajatantra Party and Janamorcha had also decided to cast votes in favor of Devkota.
