Kathmandu, Nepal, January 31, 2023: The ruling head CPN (Maoist Center) is going to hold its Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday so as to take some crucial decision from the ranges of appointing Home Minister to finalizing the party’s position on the election of President and vice president.
‘An office bearer meeting of the party held on Monday decided to this effect,’ Party Spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said ‘the meeting is called to discuss on current political developments and among others.
The Maoist Center has called its Standing Committee meeting at the time when the party, particularly its chairperson and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is in under pressure to fulfill the vacate position of home minister and to finalize the party’s position on electing of the new president.
As the then Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane was relieved of his post citing Supreme Court nullified his status as a lawmaker, the post is lying vacant. The RSP has been demanding that its Chairperson Lamichhane has to be reappointed in the post. Lamichhane has been lobbying himself to be reappointed in the same position. The party has a demand that the ministry of Home affairs allocated to the RSP should not be given to others.
Some leaders of the ruling head Maoist Center and the others from the ruling alliances, particularly the CPN UML, have been exerting pressure to get the position stating that Lamichhane should not be appointed again in the same post until he reappointed as a lawmaker from the by elections.
Likewise, the Maoist Center, particularly the party chair and Prime Minister Dahal is also in pressure to make clear its position in the election for the post of president.
