Kathmandu, Nepal: The ongoing Mahasamiti meeting of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), the apex decision making body of the party, has been heading towards the agreement to have an additional position of office bearers in the party’s executive committee.

Though the process of having additional position is becoming a huge matter of debate among the rival faction of the party, both the factions-one led by party’s president Sher Bahadur Deuba and another led by party’s senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel-, have reached on the conclusion to have additional position of vice president and joint general secretary.

Party president Deuba led faction has preferred for nominations by the party president while rival Poudel led faction has been insisting for the direct elections to select the office bearers of the party.

As Krishna Prasad Sitaula led faction, the newly merged fringe faction of the party, has also been backing the Poudel led faction, it is likely that the party would reach on the conclusion to have the additional position of office bearers through the direct elections.

The party leaders- namely the Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi and Central Committee member Ramesh Lekhak from the establishment faction and Arjun Narasingh KC and Minendra Rijal from the rival faction have led the Poudel led faction for the ongoing negotiations to settle the issue.

Though the Poudel led faction had proposed three vice presidents, general secretaries and joint general secretaries with the demand to fulfill through the direct elections, it has come to compromise for two positions.

Poudel led faction has been clinching on the demand for fulfilling the positions from direct elections with the belief that such a way would help to win the elections in the upcoming general convention of the party.

Withstanding to the strategy of the dissident faction, the president Deuba led faction had been insisting for the provision of nomination. But the establishment faction seems to bow down before the Poudel led dissident faction president seemed loyal to the demands with intent to end the meeting on time.
