Kathmandu, Nepal, February 22, 2022:Following the tabulation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact project in Parliament, the ruling head Nepali Congress has intensified its efforts to woo the political parties represent in the parliament, particularly the ruling partners, to ratify it before the February 28 deadline set by the US government.
As the CPN UML clearly hinted that it would not vote in favor of the MCC until and unless the ruling allies continue the incumbent coalition government, the leaders of the Nepali Congress have initiated discussions with other leaders of the ruling allies seeking their clear cut position on ratification of MCC from the parliament and continuation of the incumbent coalition government till the next elections.
As the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) have been saying to vote against of the MCC in the parliament, not only the ruling head Nepali Congress and the main opposition CPN UML have become suspicious but the people in general seem confused from their double slandered role
Congress leaders have a conviction that incumbent coalition government would not remain for a long if the Maoist Center and the Maoist Center play double slandered role by staying in the government and decide to vote against of MCC.
Nepali Congress will compel to seek support of the UML to ratify the MCC from the parliament even sacking out the ministers of the parties that opposed the MCC by staying in the government, congress leader said preferring anonymity.
As the Nepali Congress decided to consult the ruling partners to seek their commitment on MCC and the incumbent coalition government, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel held separate meetings with the Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, United Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and Janata Samajabadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav on Monday.
As Nepali Congress leader Poudel sought clear cut position in the meeting, Maoist Chairman Dahal stated before the media persons that the MCC would not affect the ruling alliance. Incumbent alliance and the MCC are separate issue, MCC would be settled on its own procedures, Dahal said. However, he neither mentioned his party’s role on MCC nor elaborated the procedures to settle the MCC from the parliament.
