Kathmandu, Nepal: Nepal and Germany have begun a two-day round of Government-to-Government (G2G) development cooperation talks in Kathmandu starting Tuesday (June 16), as both countries look to further align their partnership with Nepal’s national development priorities and long-term goals.

The discussions, which will continue until June 17, bring together senior officials from both governments. Held every two years, the G2G consultations provide a structured platform to take stock of ongoing projects, assess their impact, and agree on future areas of cooperation and financial support.

Health Services and Human-Centered Care at the Core

According to the Embassy of Germany in Kathmandu, this year’s dialogue places strong emphasis on sectors that directly affect people’s daily lives, particularly health, energy, and economic development.

In the health sector, the focus is on making healthcare services safer, more accessible, and more effective. This includes improving hospital infrastructure, strengthening maternal and child health services, and enhancing health insurance systems. Both sides are also reviewing efforts to ensure that quality healthcare reaches rural and underserved communities, where access remains a major challenge.

Clean Energy and Local Solutions in Energy Sector

Energy cooperation remains another key pillar of the talks. The discussions highlight practical, community-focused initiatives such as solar-powered irrigation systems to support farmers, cleaner cooking technologies to reduce indoor air pollution, and improved energy planning at the municipal level. These efforts aim to make energy use more sustainable while supporting livelihoods and environmental protection.

Supporting Jobs, Markets, and Local Economies

In the economic development area, the two sides are exploring ways to expand financial access for individuals and small businesses, improve credit availability, and create wider market opportunities for entrepreneurs. Strengthening local governance and improving public service delivery systems are also part of the broader effort to promote inclusive economic growth.

A Longstanding Partnership Built on Development Cooperation

Officials from both sides emphasized that the Nepal–Germany development partnership has evolved over decades into a steady and trusted collaboration. Germany’s support, delivered through both financial and technical assistance, has focused on areas such as sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, healthcare, and governance reforms.

The ongoing talks are expected to conclude with a shared understanding on future priorities, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to people and supports Nepal’s long-term development vision.
