Kathmandu, Nepal: responding to the widespread concerns and the agitation of senior orthopedic doctor Govinda KC, the government has on Monday issued a medical education ordinance.
With the ordinance issued from the cabinet meeting on Monday, Universities are barred from providing affiliation to new medical colleges in the Kathmandu Valley.
With the decision, no new medical colleges can be opened at least for 10 years from now in Kathmandu valley. However, the ordinance has to be authenticated from the President.
The ordinance is issued as per the spirit of the Mathema report and the agreements that the government had made with the Dr. Govinda KC.
Similarly the ordinance has also provisioned that the government and the public medical education institutes have to provide 75 percent scholarship to the students as per the ordinance.
