Kathmandu, Nepal February 24, 2026: The government has announced plans to significantly bolster nationwide security in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, security agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure that voters can participate in a fearless and secure environment.
A high-level meeting of the Central Security Committee, chaired by Home Minister Omprakash Aryal, concluded with a decisive move to place additional 'Reserve Forces' from all four security branches on high alert for immediate deployment if necessary.
Countering Rumors with Readiness
The government's proactive stance comes at a critical time. Despite rumors and fear-mongering by certain interest groups claiming that the March 5 (Phalgun 21) elections would be postponed, the Ministry has made it clear that the polls will proceed as scheduled. The mobilization of reserve forces is seen as a strategic response to those attempting to exploit the situation for personal gain. This heightened readiness serves as a firm answer to any elements attempting to cast doubt on the certainty or safety of the democratic process.
Flawless Execution and Coordination
During the session, Home Minister Aryal instructed all security agencies—the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepali Army, and the National Investigation Department—to prioritize seamless coordination and information sharing. He emphasized that security management must be "error-free," covering everything from polling stations and the transport of ballot boxes to the security of counting centers.
Strategic Oversight
The government has already identified "sensitive" and "highly sensitive" polling stations where specialized security protocols will be implemented. Beyond physical presence, the authorities are intensifying surveillance to curb the spread of misinformation and digital rumors intended to disrupt the peace.
