Kathmandu, Nepal, April 5, 2021: To celebrating the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) is going to hold various programs including walkathon in Lumbini on Wednesday.

The NOC has informed through a press meet on Sunday that discussions will also be held about development and peace at the birthplace of Gautam Buddha to celebrate the day.

IDSDP takes place annually on 6 April with the aim to present an opportunity to recognize the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.

The global theme of IDSDP 2022 is set as ‘Securing a Sustainable and Peaceful Future for All: The Contribution of Sport’ with the belief that it creates an opportunity for the Day’s celebrations to promote the use of sport as a tool to advance human rights and sustainable development.

Under this theme, UN Headquarters in New York is also going to hold a program to recognize the role of sport in addressing the climate crisis and will highlight actions to lower greenhouse gas emissions and militate against climate change.
