Kathmandu, Nepal, March 21, 2023: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has received the vote of confidence for the second time from the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday.


Prime Minister Dahal, who is also the chairman of the CPN Maoist Center, received 172 votes from 10 parties represent in the HoR. The Nepali Congress (NC),  the largest party in the parliament, Prime Minister Dahal’s own party, CPN Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) and Nagarik Unmukti Party. 

Independent parliamentarians Prabhu Shah, Amresh Kumar Singh and Yogendra Mandal also voted Prime Minister Dahal. The lawmakers from the CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), however, voted against of the Prime Minister Dahal while Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party remained neutral in the voting process.

Maoist Center Chairman Dahal, who was sworn in as the Prime Minister in 25th December 2022, faced the floor test within three months of the new government’s formation after former alliance partners- CPN UML and the RPP withdrew their support to the government. Earlier on January 10, a total of 268 HoR members supported the motion in the first mandatory vote of confidence.

The UML and the RPP had withdrawn their support to the Dahal led government after Prime Minister Dahal decided to back the Presidential candidate Ramchandra Paudel fielded by the Nepali Congress what the UML said going against the earlier understanding.
