Kathmandu, Nepal: After spending more than two decades caring for women and treating some of Nepal’s most complex gynecological cancers, Professor Dr. Jitendra Pariyar has been appointed Executive Director of Civil Service Hospital, marking a new chapter in both his career and the leadership of one of the country’s leading public hospitals.
The Government of Nepal announced the appointment on Monday, naming Dr. Pariyar to lead the hospital after he secured the top position in a competitive selection process.
According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, applicants for the post were assessed on the basis of their academic qualifications, professional achievements, leadership experience, vision for the hospital, and interview performance. Based on the recommendation of the selection committee and a subsequent decision by the Civil Service Hospital Development Committee, the government formally appointed Dr. Pariyar as Executive Director.
For many patients and colleagues, Dr. Pariyar is known not only as an administrator but also as a physician who has dedicated his professional life to improving women’s health. A specialist in gynecologic oncology, he has helped diagnose and treat thousands of women suffering from cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancers while advocating for early screening and better access to specialized care across Nepal.
Dr. Pariyar earned his medical degree and later completed an MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Institute of Medicine under Tribhuvan University. He further specialized in gynecologic oncology through advanced fellowship training at Asan Medical Center in South Korea, bringing internationally recognized expertise back to Nepal.
He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Civil Service Hospital and is also a Professor at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS). In addition to treating patients, he has spent years mentoring postgraduate medical students and training young specialists, helping shape the next generation of obstetricians, gynecologists, and gynecologic oncologists in Nepal.
His contributions extend beyond the operating room. Dr. Pariyar has been actively involved in national and international initiatives aimed at preventing cervical cancer and improving women’s reproductive healthcare. As a local supervisor for the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) Fellowship Program, he has played a key role in strengthening specialist training in Nepal.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Pariyar has published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals. His research focuses on gynecologic cancers, maternal health, reproductive medicine, and women’s healthcare, contributing to both clinical practice and public health policy.
Civil Service Hospital has grown into one of Nepal’s busiest government-run specialty hospitals, serving not only civil servants and their families but also thousands of members of the public every year. As demand for quality healthcare continues to rise, the hospital faces increasing pressure to expand specialist services, adopt digital healthcare systems, improve efficiency, and strengthen institutional governance.
As Executive Director, Dr. Pariyar will now be responsible for leading these efforts. In addition to overseeing the hospital’s day-to-day operations, he is expected to spearhead initiatives to improve patient care, modernize hospital management, strengthen specialist services, and ensure that the institution continues to meet the country’s evolving healthcare needs.
His appointment places one of Nepal’s most respected women’s health specialists in a position where his influence will extend beyond individual patient care to shaping the future direction of a major public healthcare institution.
