Kathmandu, Nepal, May 20, 2021: The Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, has on Thursday scarped the appointment of seven cabinet ministers of the incumbent KP Sharma Oli led government.
Responding to a writ petition, a single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana has said that re-appointment of seven former CPN (Maoist Center) leaders as ministers even after they lost their position as lawmakers is unconstitutional.
The verdict has passed that the move of Prime Minister Oli to give continuity to seven former Maoist Center leaders as ministers is unconstitutional as Article 78 of the constitution clearly states that a person, who is not a member of federal parliament, can be appointed as minister for only six months.
With the landmark verdict of today, the ministerial positions of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Minister for Energy Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Minister for Industry Lekharaj Bhatta, Minister for Drinking Water Mani Thapa, Minister for Labor Gauri Shankar Chaudhary, Minister for Sports Dawa Lama and Minister for Urban Development Prabhu Shah have automatically fallen vacant.
