Kathmandu, Nepal, January 2, 2021: The Supreme Court (SC), the Apex Court of the country, has on Monday sought written clarification from the government over the latter's decision to expand cabinet even after the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Responding to the writ petitions filed challenging the recent cabinet expansion, a single bench of Justice Anil Kumar Sinha sought written clarification from the government.
Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocate Lokendra Oli had moved to the SC demanding revoke the decision to expand the cabinet. The petitioners have also argued that the government cannot expand the cabinet after it reduced into a caretaker status after the dissolution of the parliament.
As seven Cabinet Ministers close to Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) resigned from the posts objecting Prime Minister K P Oli’s decision to dissolve the HoR on December 20, Prime Minister Oli had inducted some ministers in his cabinet in the presence of the President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
