Kathmandu, Nepal, February 8, 2023: The Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, has on Wednesday ordered the House of Representatives (HoR) Speaker Devraj Ghimire to submit a written clarification for recognizing the Nepali Congress as the main opposition party even though it has supported the incumbent government led by CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Responding to a writ petition filed by advocate Bimal Pokharel, a single bench of SC Justice Sushma Lata Mathema ordered to this effect to the HoR. The SC has issued the verdict arguing that the party, which has backed the government during the vote of confidence, cannot be termed as the main opposition party.
