Kathmandu, Nepal: The Special Court (SC) has on Thursday slapped seven years jail term on former Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Subash Niraula.  

A joint bench of SC Judges Baburam Regmi, Dwarika Nath Joshi and Narayan Prasad Pokhrel has also decided to fine Niraula of total Rs 13.51 million, including Rs 8.05 million claimed amount and Rs 5.4 million as penalty.

Likewise, the SC has decided to hand down six years term and Rs 8.5 million fine to chief accountant Anil Kumar Das of NTB and Rs 154,000 fine to Mahendra Khanal of World Wide Travels.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had moved to the SC against of 23 different NTB authorities including Niraula and Das on April 3, 2015 claiming that Rs 1.39 billion was embezzled in procurements of different materials. However, the SC has acquitted 20 others on the case.
