Kathmandu, Nepal, October 019, 2019 :Speaker of the House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara has courted controversy after a female employee at the Federal Parliament Secretariat (FPS) accused him of raping her.
Mahara has been alleged of raping the female employee after reaching her rented apartment at Subidhanagar, Tinkune in the capital on Sunday evening.
Though she has not formally lodged the compliant at the police, she had called the police claiming that Mahara came to her rented apartment and sexually abused her when she was alone at around 8 pm on Sunday.
Media reports have stated that she had contacted the police immediately after the incident. It is said that she had called the police at around 8.00 pm but the team from Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Baneshwar had reached the apartment at about 8:45 pm. Speaker was not found when the police had reached at the apartment.
It is said that the staffer had told even the Nepali Congress lawmaker Uma Regmi by calling her that she was raped by Speaker Mahara by coming at her rented apartment. I did not know anything else about the allegation but she told me that she was raped by Speaker Mahara, Regmi has said.
During the interrogation she had stated that she knew Mahara long time ago and he usually used to come at her apartment. She has a claim that she has sufficient proves like peace of broken spectacles, insole of shoes used by Mahara and repeated calls made my Speaker Mahara at her mobile phone even her viber account.
As she has refused to register First Information Report (FIR) against of Mahara, there is a speculation that either the woman had made the false claim to revenge Mahara or she has been threatened not to register the case.
Following the allegation of sexual violation against the woman employee, Mahara's secretariat has issued a statement brushing aside the allegations calling it as baseless and motivated to defame Speaker Mahara with the false allegation. However, Mahara himself has not spoken about the incident.
The female employee was unhappy with Speaker Mahara after she was not given a placement to the Federal Parliament Secretariat by creating a new position under the health service as per her request, states the statement issued by Mahara’s press advisor Dilli Malla.
It cannot even be imagined that the honorable speaker is involved in misbehaving with anyone, he had not gone anywhere except the parliament secretariat at noon Sunday and had returned to his official residence in Baluwatar by 2 pm, I want to inform all media and journalist friends that there is no basis for the attempts that are being made to smear the character of House Speaker Mahara, reads the statement.
