Kathmandu, Nepal, May 25, 2021: The ruling CPN UML and the Mahantha Thakur-Rajendra Mahato-led faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) are in talks to join in the government.
Though the CPN UML chairman, who is also the Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli has already agreed to give eight ministerial posts to the Thakur-Mahato led faction of the JSP, they have not reach on consensus over the issue of division of ministries.
The Thakur-Mahato-led faction of the JSP has been extending support to the government. The issue over supporting the incumbent Oli-led government has reached the party at the verge to split.
Another Upendra Yadav and Baburam Bhattrai-led faction of the JSP have been opposing the idea to join in the government. The Yadav-Bhattrai-led faction of the JSP has joined hands with the opposition allies demanding formation of new government under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The government has fulfilled almost all the demands forwarded by the Thakur-Mahato-led faction of the JSP including citizenship issue and release of its jailed cadres and leaders. The JSP had also been demanding amendment of the constitution.
