Kathmandu, Nepal, February 13, 2023: Former king Gyanendra Shah and the family members of the former monarch have joined in a public campaign launched to restore Hindu Kingdom on Monday.
In the campaign started from Kakarbhita of Jhapa district, former king Shah flagged off the slogan– ‘Let’s save the Dharma, Nation, Nationalism, Culture and Citizens Mega Campaign.’
Former crown prince Paras Shah, former crown princess Himani Shah, her daughter Prirana Shah and niece Seetashma Shah have also joined in the campaign.
The campaign launched under the leadership of Durga Parasai, a Central Committee member of the KP Oli led CPN UML is taken as a symbolic but significant political move.
The campaign is launched coinciding to the Falgun 1, the day when then CPN (Maoist) led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had launched decade long insurgency on the name of people’s war.
The government announced a public holiday on the day to mark the Maoist war. The decision to declare a public holiday for the first time sparked nationwide protests.
People from different walks of life including some quarters of the ruling coalition protested the government decision to recognize the decades-long insurgency as a people’s war.
Though some coalition partners namely the CPN UML and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have not formally protested the government’s decision but their leaders and cadres have actively been participating in the campaign.
