Guwahati, December 16 : At least two suspected militants belonging to banned outfit NDFB-S were killed during a fierce gun fight with security forces in Assam's Dima Hasao district along with Assam-Meghalaya border on Friday night, while security personnel had launched operation at the remote bordering area to rescue a businessman, officials said on Saturday.
 
According to the reports, based on intelligence input, troops of Assam Rifles, Dima Hasao police and Meghalaya police had jointly launched operation at Garampani area in the hills district to rescue the abducted businessman named Mahendra Rai hailing from Meghalaya, who was kidnapped by suspected NDFB-S militants.
 
When the troops reached the remote area, militants had fired and bullets were exchanged from both sides.
 
During the gun battle two militants were killed on spot and two others had managed to flee from the area with advantage of darkness.
 
Later security personnel had safely rescued the abducted businessman.
 
Security personnel had recovered a 9mm pistol and several rounds ammunition from the encounter place.
 
A top police official said that, the man was abducted by the suspected NDFB-S militants from East Jaintia Hills on December 4, who later demanded a ransom of amounting Rs 2 crore from the businessman family.
 
The slain militants are yet to be identified.
