Kathmandu, Nepal: The United States has begun providing emergency relief supplies to communities affected by flooding in Nepal, with the first shipment being sent to Rasuwa in coordination with the Government of Nepal.
U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Scott Urbom on Friday dispatched the first shipment of emergency supplies intended for people affected by the floods.
The U.S. Embassy said Catholic Relief Services (CRS), working through its implementing partner Caritas Nepal, will deliver the supplies to two schools in Rasuwa. The shipment includes more than 2.5 metric tons of food, 500 blankets, 500 mosquito nets and 500 insulating foam sheets for use as temporary shelter flooring.
For families affected by flooding, access to food and basic shelter materials can be particularly important in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. The supplies are expected to support people who may have lost or been forced to leave their homes or whose daily lives have been disrupted by flooding.
The assistance is part of ongoing humanitarian coordination between the United States and Nepal. The U.S. Embassy said it is working with the Government of Nepal, Catholic Relief Services and Caritas Nepal to assess requirements and prepare additional shipments based on needs identified in affected areas.
Rather than providing a fixed package of assistance, the U.S. Embassy said subsequent relief supplies will be selected and delivered according to Nepal’s needs.
The latest support comes as government agencies, local authorities and humanitarian organizations continue to respond to the effects of flooding in affected communities. For residents dealing with damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods and uncertain access to basic necessities, immediate relief remains an important part of the broader recovery effort.
The U.S. Embassy said it will continue coordinating with its Nepali and humanitarian partners to help ensure that the assistance reaches communities and people who need it.
