Kathmandu, Nepal: A sudden and powerful flood entering Nepal from the Tibetan side of China has caused significant damage in northern Rasuwa, leaving settlements in the Timure and Syabrubesi areas struggling with the aftermath and prompting authorities to place communities along the Trishuli River on high alert.

The flood entered the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Rasuwa District Police Office and other government authorities. The sudden surge of water rapidly swept downstream, damaging homes and infrastructure in Timure and surrounding areas before raising the water level of the Trishuli River toward Nuwakot.

The Flood Forecasting Division has warned residents living along the Trishuli River to remain extremely cautious, with the alert extended downstream toward Mugling. Authorities in Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan have also been alerted as officials monitor the movement and level of the river.

The disaster struck with little warning, leaving residents and authorities with limited time to respond. Officials are still assessing the full extent of the damage, while security agencies and local governments are working to establish communication with affected areas.

Timure bears the brunt of the flood

Timure, a key settlement near the Nepal-China border, has been among the worst-hit areas.

The sudden rise of the Bhote Koshi overwhelmed parts of the settlement and damaged homes, businesses and government facilities. The Timure Customs Office area has also been affected, raising concerns about the disruption of one of Nepal's important trade routes with China.

Syabrubesi, another major settlement in Rasuwa, has also reported damage. Local authorities are continuing to collect information about destroyed or damaged houses, infrastructure and other property.

Three police facilities in the district—including the Area Police Office in Timure, the Police Post in Syabrubesi and the Police Post at Rasuwagadhi—have also sustained damage, according to reports.

The extent of casualties and the number of people who may have been displaced or stranded were still being verified as of Wednesday. Authorities have urged people not to rely on unverified information while rescue and assessment teams work to establish the situation on the ground.

Suddenness of flood raises concern
